She made her debut as a gospel singer in 1971 with a remake of the song "Senoya, Senoya" (세노야, 세노야). She traveled to various places in the US and Europe to perform gospel missionary performances and was fascinated by the world of jazz.
Afterwards, she studied under jazz theorist Lee Pan Geun and, in 1992, decided to become a full-time jazz singer.
She is widely considered as one of the best jazz musicians in South Korea and she frequently hosts "Yoon Hee Jung and Friends", a space where she teaches jazz songs to any celebrity who wants to perform with her on stage.
