Atsuko Asano is a Japanese writer born in Okayama, Japan. She began writing children's novels while in college and graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University with a Bachelor of Letters degree. Following her graduation, she worked as a temporary elementary school teacher in Okayama for two years.

Her first novel, *Hotarukan Monogatari*, was published in 1991. To distinguish herself from actress Atsuko Asano, who was also a writer, she used a pen name written in hiragana.

She is married to a dentist and they have two sons and a daughter.
