He always wanted to become a singer so he attended a high school where majored in Practical Music. He spent time as a trainee but decided to quit as he considered going to college. However, he saw former classmate Kang Deok In appear on "Show Me The Money 2" and after the show, he contacted him and convinced him to sing ballads instead of hip-hop.
He made his debut in 2015 as the trio's main vocalist and maknae with their first single album, "That Time, Us". They did not become successful until 2017 when the single "Good Old Days" topped the charts. At the time, the group's agency, Ravex (레이벡스; formerly known as Limez Entertainment and Maverick), was accused of chart manipulation, but this was never proven.
