She was introduced to archery at the age of 11 and made her international debut in 2008. She first qualified for the senior South Korean national team in 2010 and over the next nine years regularly represented her country at international competitions, winning team gold medals at the World Archery Championships, the World Cup finals, the Asian Games, and the Summer Universiade.
In her only Olympic participation, she won gold medals in both the women's individual and in the women's team events at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
After failing to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic), she announced her retirement in August 2022.
She became a commentator for MBC in 2023.
