Yu Yuan Chi was a Taiwanese singer, TV hostess, and actress born in Beitou, Taipei, Taiwan. She was the second daughter of Taiwanese actor and politician Yu Tian (余天) and artist Li Ya Ping (李亞萍). In 2015, she married Chen Jian (陳鑒).

In 1993, during her third year of junior high school, her parents sent her and her siblings to Canada for their education. She majored in hotel management in college but maintained a strong interest in music. After graduating in 2001, she returned to Taiwan and sought her first acting role in "In-Law Battles" (婆媳過招千百回), which marked the start of her career.

Yu was diagnosed with stage III rectal cancer in 2014, which recurred in 2019 with distant organ metastasis. She passed away from the illness on August 21, 2022, at Taipei Veterans General Hospital (臺北榮民總醫院) at the age of 39.
