She made her debut in August 2012 as the group's main vocalist and visual with the single album "Vista". The following year, she debuted as a musical actress with a role in "High School Musical On Stage!" (하이 스쿨 뮤지컬).
The group had released a pre-debut song with labelmate IU titled "Sea of Moonlight". However, the group faced mixed reviews in their following releases and, in May 2018, Kakao M (카카오M, formerly known as LOEN Entertainment) announced that 4 members decided not to renew their contracts and, as a result, FIESTAR disbanded.
In August 2024, Cao Lu revealed the group had been reformed after she financed the reunion thanks to her earnings as a streamer in China. They re-debuted as an independent group but are looking for an agency and a manager.
