Sasaki Shoichiro was a Japanese director and filmmaker born in Tokyo, Japan. After graduating from Rikkyo University’s (立教大学) Faculty of Economics, he joined NHK in 1960, initially working in the Entertainment Bureau’s Radio Literary Department (芸能局ラジオ文芸部) where he directed radio dramas. His debut work, Two Faces of the City (都会の二つの顔), was released in 1963.

In 1968, he transferred to the Television Drama Department (テレビドラマ部) as an assistant director. Sasaki retired from NHK in 1995 and continued his career as a freelance director. He also spent 10 years as a professor at Bunkyo University’s (文教大学) Faculty of Information and Communications.

Sasaki passed away from pneumonia on June 14, 2024, at the age of 88, in a hospital in Yamato, Kanagawa, Japan.
