Ning Ying is a Chinese director, screenwrite, and producer born in Beijing, China. She studied at the Beijing Film Academy and Italy's National Film School, where she met Bernardo Bertolucci, who later hired her as assistant director on "The Last Emperor". She also completed a fellowship at Harvard University.
