  • Nationality: South Korean
  • Gender: Male
  • Born: October 8, 1954

Kim Sung Chan was a South Korean actor and theater producer. While attending Seonin High School, he was part of the theater club. However, his parents opposed, and he decided to run away from home. He spent time working at a labor camp and practiced acting while trying to earn some food.

After graduating from high school, he initially performed in various theater groups, including the YMCA's Talgeuk Troupe and the Minjung Theater Troupe. He made his debut in 1973 as part of the 6th open recruitment for talent at MBC. He played most supporting roles throughout his career until the early 1980s, when he gained recognition after appearing in the 1980 movie "Good Windy Day" and in the 1982 MBC drama "Market People".

In September 1999, he traveled to Laos to film episodes of the KBS2 variety show "Earth Expedition". The producing company was hastily prepared for the trip, and the crew did not take precautionary malaria shots. The episodes ended up being cancelled, and he took a trip to Thailand before returning to South Korea. A few weeks later, he collapsed on the set of another variety show, and 2 days after that, he fell into a coma. By the end of the month, the malaria parasite had reached his brain, and he was declared brain dead. He ultimately passed away on November 7, 1999, at the age of 45. His funeral took place at Inha University Hospital's Funeral Hall and was cremated there.
