Zhang Quan Ling was born in Changning, Shanghai, China, but her ancestral home is in Yuyao, Ningbo, Zhejiang. She attended Peking University, graduating from the Department of German Language and Literature. Her career began In 1997 working for CCTV after joining the International Department of CCTV, serving as a reporter, director and host of "China Report". In the following years she would go on to host CCTV's news programs. In early July 2015, Zhang Quan Ling confirmed her resignation from CCTV and in 2019, she joined "Shao Nian De Dao" as chairman, thus beginning her venture into business, where she would later co-found venture capital company "Purple Cow Startups" (紫牛基金).
In 2012, Zhang Quan Ling won the Outstanding Host Award at the 26th China TV Golden Eagle Award. Her accolades would continue. In 2020, China Entrepreneur Magazine released the annual list of "China's 30 Most Influential Businesswomen", and Zhang Quan Ling was selected as the "Mulan of the Business World". In November 2021, she was selected into Fortune's "2021 China's Most Influential Businesswomen Future List".
