In 2000, he was selected for the U-16 South Korean National Team and won the gold medal at the inaugural Asian Youth Baseball Championship. He was a pitcher at the time and was named the Most Valuable Player of the competition. Afterwards, elbow injuries forced him to convert to an outfielder.
He was chosen by the KIA Tigers as the 5th overall selection in the 2008 Korean Baseball League draft. He made his debut with the first team a few weeks later and spent his entire career playing for the team. He retired at the end of the 2022 season, having played for 14 years with the Tigers.
Since then, he has worked as a commentator for KBS Sports, SBS Sports and is currently employed by tvN Sports.
