Janel Tsai is a Taiwanese model and actress affiliated with ELITE Entertainment. Initially, she did not consider a modeling career due to her self-perceived masculine appearance. However, after a friend invited her to a photo shoot, she found the experience enjoyable and entered the modeling industry. Tsai had planned to retire at 28 but later transitioned into acting and other entertainment roles.

Tsai was in an eight-year relationship with Taiwanese actor Li Pei Xu, but they have since separated.

In late 2017, she was diagnosed with myofascial pain syndrome, a condition linked to an old pelvic injury and compounded by occupational injuries. This condition caused bone deformities and significant pain, affecting her ability to stand, squat, or sit for extended periods. Due to atrophy of the plantar fascia, she could no longer wear high heels and had to take a break from work for over a year to focus on rehabilitation. She has since resumed work, adapting to roles that accommodate her condition.
