While attending school, he was considered one of the best second basemen in the Korean high school baseball league. After graduating, he was selected by the Doosan Bears with the 50th overall pick of the 2006 KBO Draft. However, he only played 7 games in the next two years with the senior team as the manager opted to send him to the second-tier team to improve his hitting technique. He played his first full season with the senior team in 2008.
He then enlisted for his mandatory military service on November 30, 2009, and was discharged on September 21, 2011. During his service, he played for the Sangmu Baseball Team (Army), and after being released, he returned to the Bears, spending the following 9 years with the team. He then moved to the SSG Landers in 2021 before signing a contract with the Kiwoon Heroes in 2024.
