When he was 12, he was scouted by FC Barcelona after playing in the 2010 Danone Nations Cup, one of the world's elite youth tournaments. He joined the club's youth academy in 2011 but, unfortunately, was banned from playing in any league tournament for 3 years due to a punishment imposed by FIFA after an investigation revealed irregular transfers made by Barcelona. He made his senior debut in 2016 for Barcelona B but left the club at the end of 2017 as he never received the chance to join the main squad.
He moved to Italy, where he played for Hellas Verona from 2017 until 2019, then joined Belgium's Sint-Truiden but had limited action due to the COVID-19 pandemic and because he was not liked by the coach. In 2021, he joined Portugal's Portimonense on loan, but he only played in 4 games before ending his contract 6 months later.
He opted to return to South Korea and joined Suwon FC in 2022, scoring 34 goals in 88 appearances. In 2024, he moved to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, where he has settled. Internationally, he represented his country in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and then worked as a commentator for SBS during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
