U;Nee
- Name: U;Nee
- Native name: 유니
- Also Known as: 이혜련, Heo Yun, 허윤, Yu Ni
- Nationality: South Korean
- Gender: Female
- Born: May 3, 1981
- Died: January 21, 2007
She was active as a child actress under her birth name. However, she had a complicated childhood as her father left the family, her mother struggled financially and later remarried. She made her official debut in 1996 as a re-enactment actress in several episodes of the KBS serial program "New Generation Report - Adults Don't Know". The roles she played in this program were mostly negative, so she began being associated with a "mean" image. This stigma followed her for several roles, as the public could not separate the program role from the celebrity. As a result, she suffered from psychological pressure and decided to stop her acting career.
As an adult, she legally changed her name to Heo Yun and returned after several years of hiatus, this time as a singer under the stage name U;Nee. She debuted in June 2003 with her first album, "U;Nee Code", but received more negative comments due to the contrast between her feminine voice and image and her cold demeanor and intense dance moves. She was labeled as "fake" and received a large number of malicious comments that continued for a few years, until her second album in 2005.
The anti-fans never stopped harassing her, and her appearances in several variety shows did not help change the public's perception, even being criticized by other singers or hosts on air just for "fun". The depression and anxiety due to the hate she received were too much to handle. On January 21, 2007, she committed suicide at the age of 25 by hanging herself while her mother and grandmother attended church.
