He made his debut as a solo artist in October 2016 with the single "Run, Run, Run". He then signed with 2Y Entertainment (2Y엔터테인먼트) and became a trainee. He had previously been at JYP Entertainment.
In 2017, he participated in the singing survival show "Produce 101 Season 2" and finished in 53rd place. However, after the show concluded, fans began petitioning MNet to create a project group with popular contestants outside of the Top 10. So, the Japanese agency KISS Entertainment (キッス・エンタテインメント) took over the fan request.
He re-debuted in October 2017 as RAINZ's vocalist with their first EP, "Sunshine". The group signed a one-year contract and officially disbanded in October 2018, when they concluded their last activities in Japan.
He returned to his agency and trained for one more year. In 2019, he was set to debut as part of GIGONDAE (기동대), a new 5-member group formed by 2Y Entertainment. Unfortunately, the group's debut date kept getting delayed. In June 2020, there was hope of a possible debut as they released the pre-debut single "Party Like This". But, the joy was short-lived as 2Y announced the group's cancellation, without having debuted, in January 2021.
He is now an independent artist using his birth name when releasing his own material and working under the stage name ONE.KI when working as a producer.
