Tao Hong is a Chinese actress born in Wuxi, Jiangsu, China. She graduated from the performance department of Central Academy of Drama. She was a former national synchronized swimmer, National Games champion and ranked 5th in the World Cup team.

In 1993, she officially entered showbiz with her participation in the movie "In the Heat of the Sun" (阳光灿烂的日子). Her performance in the movie "Colors of the Blind" (黑眼睛) won three awards, namely Best Actress Award at the 10th Damascus International Film Festival and Best Actress Award at the 4th China Film Huabiao Awards in 1997, and Best Actress Award at the 18th China Film Golden Rooster Awards in 1998.

In that same year, Tao and Xu Zheng met on the set of TV series "Sunny Piggy" (春光灿烂猪八戒). They married in 2003, and had a daughter in 2008.
