Liu Yu Bin is a Chinese actor, born in Harbin of Heilongjiang Province. At aged 18, he worked in a rolling mill factory where he was put in charge of mass cultural activities. Having been trained and exposed to the works of lyricist, writer, screenwriter and director, he began to feel restless. So in 1959, Liu went to Harbin Film Studio to participate in their recruitment for actors. As the first batch of students in the performance class of Harbin Drama Theatre, he learnt from the famous performing artist Gao Lan.

In 1989, after retiring from his stint of nearly 50 years of stage performances, he moved on to participate in films and TV dramas, and became known as a "commoner" artist.
