Kim Tae Woo
- Name: Kim Tae Woo
- Native name: 김태우
- Also Known as: Kim Tae U
- Nationality: South Korean
- Gender: Male
- Born: May 12, 1981
- Age: 44
In 1997, KH iHQ (KH아이에이치큐) and Joon Park were forming a new group. They faced many challenges even before debuting as the International Monetary Fund collapse brought a severe economic crisis to South Korea and the agency struggled financially, having to cut funding to many trainees. Park Jin Young was brought in to become their producer and mentor, and originally, the group's name was set to be GOT6 before a trainee left the agency. He was then scouted when he was still in high school, and Park decided to add him to the lineup.
He made his debut in January 1999 as g.o.d's vocalist and maknae with their first album, "Chapter 1". They gained attention for their "boys next door" looks and their vocal talent, a stark contrast to the trend of the era, which was largely focused on groups with visually appealing members and highly sophisticated and energetic choreography. They are one of the best-selling artists in South Korea, but due to their extended hiatus and lack of overseas promotions, their popularity and fame have been largely limited to the domestic market.
In September 2001, the group nearly disbanded when Joon Park was found out to be dating. The agency wanted him to quit the group so g.o.d could continue promoting. However, this decision was met with strong opposition from the other members and the fans, so it was eventually dropped.
In 2006, they decided to go on an indefinite hiatus but stated that they would not disband. All members began pursuing individual activities, and he opted to continue as a solo artist.
He enlisted for his mandatory military service on March 20, 2007, and was discharged on February 25, 2009. After serving, he returned to the industry, releasing his second album as a soloist and also becoming an MC/host and appearing in several variety shows.
After many years on hiatus, g.o.d officially reunited in 2014. He decided to return as a member and they have continued to release new albums and have held concerts all over the country. Group activities are managed by Gemstone E&M (젬스톤이엔앰), and for his individual activities, he is represented by NS ENM (엔에스이엔엠; formerly known as IOK Company).
