Kim Woo Sung
- Name: Kim Woo Sung
- Native name: 김우성
- Also Known as: Woosung, Sam, Kim U Seong, 새미, Sammy
- Nationality: American
- Gender: Male
- Born: February 25, 1993
- Age: 33
In 2011, he first appeared on TV as a contestant in "K-Pop Star". Unfortunately, he barely missed out on the Top 10 and decided to go on a break. He spent the next three years teaching English in Seoul.
He was recruited by the other members who were already posting their songs on YouTube and busking as the indie band WINDFALL. By early 2016, the now 4-member band signed an exclusive contract with J&Star Company (제이앤스타컴퍼니) and decided to re-brand as THE ROSE.
He made his debut in August 2017 as the band's leader, lead vocalist and electric guitarist with their first single, "Sorry", written by Lee Ha Joon.
In April 2019, all of them entered the JTBC singing survival competition "Super Band", but only he passed the preliminary rounds. He joined 4 other musicians during the team mission, forming MONÉ (모네). The project band was unusual as it had 4 vocalists (he could also play guitar) and a drummer but still managed to finish in 4th place. However, they were the only band among the Top 4 that never released any material after the show ended.
He made his debut as a solo artist in July 2019 with the EP "Wolf". He promoted as a soloist until his bandmates completed their mandatory military service, which he was not forced to do as he only has an American citizenship.
In February 2020, the members filed a lawsuit against J&Star Company to terminate their exclusive contract. They claimed the agency had not paid them since their debut and that they had a strict performance and promotional schedule. The company immediately denied the claims, and the lawsuit was not settled until June 2021.
They spent most of 2023 and 2024 attending international festivals, such as Coachella and Lollapalooza, and went on a worldwide tour. They created their own label, Windfall, and are also co-managed by Transparent Arts (트랜스페어런트아츠) in the United States. For his individual activities, he created a separate label, Woolfpack.
