Tang Yao, born in Shandong Province, Jinan City. He graduated from the Directing Department of Shanghai Theatre Academy. In 2007, he was a screenwriter of the original fashion reality show "Fashion Star". He served as a screenwriter of the period drama "The Shengtianmen Gate" (aka "Sheng Tian Men Kou") released in 2011 and the spy drama "Special Train №1" (2012). However Tang Yao is best known for such dramas as "Memories of Love " (2018), "Like a Flowing River" (2018) and "Like a Flowing River 2" (2020).
Tang Yao was recognised at the 2nd Screenplay Carnival "Annual Focus on TV Screenwriting" (in 2018) and won an award for the drama "Like a Flowing River". He also took the Best Screenwriter (adaptation) award at the 25th Shanghai Television Festival-White Jade Award in 2019 for the same drama.
He was nominated at the 13th Macau International Television Festival "Golden Lotus" (in 2022) in category "The Best Screenwriter Award" for his drama "Like a Flowing River 2".
His latest works include: "Raiders of the New Way", "Like a Flowing River 3", "Return to Shenzhen" and "Jiang Nan Ri Mu" (aka "Jiangnan Rouge").
