A trainee under SM Entertainment from 2016-2018, she was a member of a pre-debut training team SMROOKIES, established in 2013. In September 2018, Yi Yang confirmed that she had left SM Entertainment and joined Huang Zi Tao's Company, L. TAO ENTERTAINMENT. In early 2019, she debuted in a project girl group called, "Legal High", which was formed from the show "The Next Top Bang" (TNTB). However, the group silently disbanded mere months after their debut. She made her solo debut on July 16, 2020, with the digital single "Listen."
On December 2, 2024, Xu Yi Yang announced her marriage with Huang Zi Tao.
