His short film The Prince of Milk (2008) was invited to Nippon Connection in 2010 and also to many other international film festivals. Let's Make the Teacher Have a Miscarriage Club (2011 / NC ’11), Naito's feature length debut, sparked controversy, not only due to its title. Recently, with Lychee Light Club (2016) and Liverleaf (2018), he also directed manga adaptations.
