Before debuting in South Korea, he was already active in China as a contestant in several singing and hosting competitions.
In October 2007, SM Entertainment (SM엔터테인먼트) announced that a new SUPER JUNIOR sub-group would debut in China in 2008. The main group debuted in November 2005, but as part of SM's strategy, the agency decided not to limit the group's activities while certain members focused on their individual careers. As a result, several sub-groups were created since their debut.
However, some of the group's official fanclub (E.L.F) signed online petitions and held protests to express their dissatisfaction and opposition of adding new members to SUPER JUNIOR as they feared that original members would end up being replaced. After months of protests, SM had to release an official statement assuring the fans that no original member was being replaced with the addition of him and Henry Lau to this sub-group.
He made his debut in April 2008 as SUPER JUNIOR-M's lead vocalist with the single "U", part of their debut album "Me", which was released a few weeks later. They nearly faced disbandment when member Han Geng sued SM, looking to terminate his contract in December 2009. The subgroup was restructured and returned in 2011 for their EP, "Perfection".
In February 2014, he joined the project group S.M. THE BALLAD, consisting of various artists under SM Entertainment. They debuted in November 2010, and the group reunited in 2014 with a new lineup that included him, releasing their EP, "Breath". However, they have been inactive since then.
He has continued to promote in both China and South Korea and remains under SM Entertainment, releasing several singles and collaborating with Eunhyuk and other SUPER JUNIOR members in their individual projects. He is also active as an actor in Chinese dramas and, since 2022, has been represented by Bymon Entertainment for his Chinese activities.
