He made his debut in October 1992 with his first album, "Sleepless Rainy Night". He gained immense popularity in the 1990s with the release of many hit songs, to the point where he was nicknamed the "nation's singer". With his unique tone and musical ability, he released many timeless masterpieces and tried and popularized various genres. His 1995 album, "Wrongful Meeting", previously held the Guinness World Record for the best-selling album of all time in South Korea.
He won the Album of the Year at the Golden Disc Awards for three consecutive years from 1994 to 1996. He also received a presidential commendation from the South Korean government for his contributions to popular culture.
