Choi Jin Shil
- Name: Choi Jin Shil
- Native name: 최진실
- Also Known as: Choi Jin Sil ,
- Nationality: South Korean
- Gender: Female
- Born: December 24, 1968
- Died: October 2, 2008
She made her debut in 1998, appearing in a TV commercial for Samsung Electronics. She was considered one of the best actresses in South Korea and was nicknamed "The Nation's Actress" for her cute appearance, friendly personality, and image of sincerity and humility. She enjoyed massive popularity in the 1990s, and in the early 2000s, she decided to do only TV dramas.
In 2000, she married Cho Sung Min, a professional baseball player. However, Cho attacked her in November 2002 while pregnant with the couple's second child. She filed for divorce in September 2004 and returned to acting in mid-2005.
In September 2008, she began facing malicious rumors as media articles began spreading false information about her being the loan shark who caused the suicide of fellow actor Ahn Jae Hwan. Those rumors were investigated by the police and deemed baseless almost immediately. Unfortunately, lingering depression became too much to handle. On October 2, 2008, she committed suicide by hanging at her home in Seoul, dying at the age of 39. She was cremated, and her ashes were buried at Gapsan Park Cemetery in Yangpyeong County.
She left two children behind, Choi Hwan Hee (born in 2001), who debuted in 2020 as a rapper under the stage name Ben Bliss and Choi Jun Hee (born in 2003), who is now an influencer and content creator. Her brother, actor and singer Choi Jin Young, also committed suicide in March 2010.
