On May 10, 2015, at the "2nd AKB48 Group Draft Meeting," she was selected as the first pick for SKE48 Team E and later officially joined as a trainee. She was introduced on June 12. On October 5, during the "7th Anniversary of Theater Debut" at the SKE48 Theater, five new units within SKE48 were announced, with Sugawara chosen for "Love Crescendo." On November 28, at the "SKE48 Winter Concert 2015" in Nagoya, her promotion to full member and assignment to Team E were announced.
On July 10, 2017, she officially joined the Nijigen Doukoukai (2D Club).
On April 21, 2019, she announced a hiatus from SKE48 starting April 29. Scheduled to return on August 15, her performance was canceled due to a typhoon. She made her comeback on August 18, performing with Team E at the TV Asahi Roppongi Hills Summer Festival SUMMER STATION Music LIVE.
On April 10, 2024, she released her first photobook, "Shutter Chance."
