After returning to South Korea, he became interested in music and started busking with Lee Jae Hyeong (also known as Jeff) while he was a trainee at DSP Media. As a trainee, the company did not agree with his busking activities, so he decided to stop working with Lee. Months later, he left the agency and was recruited by Lee and his new busking partner, Lee Ha Joon. He accepted, and the trio began posting their songs on YouTube and busking as the indie band WINDFALL by the end of 2015.
By early 2016, they recruited their final member, and the band signed an exclusive contract with J&Star Company (제이앤스타컴퍼니) and decided to re-brand as THE ROSE.
He made his debut in August 2017 as the band's main vocalist, keyboardist and acoustic guitarist with their first single, "Sorry", written by Lee Ha Joon. Billboard named the single as one of the best Korean pop songs of 2017, and Rolling Stone praised their debut, which took them on their first world tour in early 2018.
In February 2020, the members filed a lawsuit against J&Star Company to terminate their exclusive contract. They claimed the agency had not paid them since their debut and that they had a strict performance and promotional schedule. The company immediately denied the claims, and the lawsuit was not settled until June 2021.
He enlisted for his mandatory military service on July 6, 2020, and was discharged on January 5, 2022.
They spent most of 2023 and 2024 attending international festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza and went on a worldwide tour. They created their own label, Windfall, and are also co-managed by Transparent Arts (트랜스페어런트아츠) in the United States.
