In 2004, Chu co-founded the band "Free Bird." He is also recognized for his achievements in martial arts, including winning a gold medal at the World Tai Chi and Wrestling Championships in Spain in 2007 and securing dual gold medals in Tai Chi and Shuai Jiao at the 17th Great Lakes Cup Martial Arts Championship in the United States in 2008.
Chu is also an author, having written books on cooking.
