Before debuting, she was originally supposed to be part of a co-ed project group alongside NRG's Kim Hwan Sung and g.o.d's Danny Ahn and Son Ho Young. However, she decided not to participate and left the agency.
She made her debut in November 1997 as S.E.S's main rapper, lead dancer, sub-vocalist and maknae with their first album, "I'm Your Girl", which became the third best-selling album by a female group in South Korea. They were the first girl group launched by Lee Soo Man and SM Entertainment (SM엔터테인먼트) and with their innocent image and their discography consisting of love songs all members achieved commercial success almost immediately.
However, in 2002, SM tried to renew the contracts of Eugene and Bada but all negotiations failed. When both decided to leave the agency, S.E.S effectively disbanded. The trio released the compilation album "Beautiful Songs" in mid-2003 as their last one, but they briefly reunited a few times, most notably in 2016, to celebrate their 20th anniversary.
She left SM in 2006 and signed with JIIN Entertainment and decided to put her singing career on hiatus in order to focus on her acting career. She appeared in several dramas and in musical theater until 2010 when she opted to resume singing with the release of the mini-album "Devote One's Love".
In 2014, she signed with RUN Entertainment and, once again, focused solely on her acting career.
Then, in 2018, she faced controversy when she was prosecuted for habitual gambling in several countries. She published a handwritten letter apologizing for her actions and went on hiatus for over two years.
She returned in October 2020 with her first Japanese digital album, "I Found Love", and made her comeback in 2022 with a documentary about her life.
She is now an ambassador of Korean Gambling Prevention Treatment Agency.
