Before debuting, she appeared on "Star King" playing the gayageum. She was scouted by MBK Entertainment (MBK엔터테인먼트; previously known as Core Content Media) and joined the agency as a trainee. She and her sister were supposed to debut as part of new idol groups but MBK preferred her to join T-ARA. But, after weeks of deliberation, the agency determined to have her sister join T-ARA and she had to wait one more year to debut.
She made her debut in September 2010 as COED SCHOOL's vocalist with their first digital single, "Too Late". However, MBK opted to create two separate groups, one for the boys and another for the girls. She re-debuted in February 2011 as F-VE DOLLS's lead rapper and vocalist with their digital single "Lip Stains".
However, MBK faced financial issues since August 2012, and the CEO wanted them to go back to being trainees, which caused some internal problems. In addition, rumors began circulating about Huh Chan Mi and Seo Eun Kyo severely bullying Lee Seo An (formerly known as Lee Soo Mi). These rumors were never officially confirmed, but many believed them to be true and damaged their reputation.
Around the same time, in July 2012, her sister only performed one song during a T-ARA concert in Japan while sustaining an alleged leg injury. She engaged in a series of messages with T-ARA member Hyo Min to defend Ryo Hwa Young, leading to speculation of internal conflicts among T-ARA members and also between groups from the same agency.
In 2013, F-VE DOLLS faced a lineup change, and with fewer opportunities to promote, the group eventually disbanded in March 2015.
The alleged T-ARA bullying incident was finally resolved in February 2017 when she and her sister appeared in "Live Talk Show Taxi" and revisited the controversy. Shortly after, a former staff member alleged the twins had actually bullied the other members and released texts showing several threats sent by her against former T-ARA member Lee Ah Reum. Then, more staff members revealed evidence of Ryu Hwa Young being disrespectful to the other members and to stylists and also exaggerating her leg injury for sympathy. Her sister later admitted that all the evidence shown by the staff was true, and she deleted all her social media accounts.
She left MBK after filing a lawsuit to end her contract and, in 2017, began her career as an actress and changed her stage name to Jung Woo Yeon as people still recognize her from the bullying controversy. That year, she was cast as the lead role in MBC's daily drama "Golden Pouch".
She is currently represented by C-Trio Entertainment (씨트리오 엔터테인먼트), and she returned to her birth name in November 2024.
