James Hooper is a British mountain climber, explorer, professor, and TV personality. He graduated from Christ's Hospital Boarding School and later obtained a bachelor's degree in Geography from Kyung Hee University and a Ph.D in Earth and Environmental Science from the University of Wollongong.

While attending boarding school, he and his classmate Rob Gauntlett teamed up to climb Mount Everest. They became the youngest British climbers to accomplish that feat when they succeeded in 2019 at the age of 19. Then, they successfully attempted the Pole-to-Pole challenge (from North Pole to South Pole) without any power and only using skis, sleds, bicycles, and yachts to complete the quest. For this achievement, the two were selected as the "Adventurer of the Year" by National Geographic in 2008.

The following year, he quit mountain climbing when Gauntlett was killed in an accident at Mont Blanc. He worked as an office employee until he moved to South Korea in 2010 to teach English. In 2014, he moved to Australia to complete his Ph.D. program and returned to Seoul in 2020.

He is currently a professor in the Department of Bioenvironmental Sciences at Dongguk University.
