Chao Chun Ya is a Taiwanese actor. He studied at Santa Monica Community College in California, USA. He comes from a military family; both his great-grandfather and grandfather served in the military, while his father is a businessman from Shanghai. In 2005, Chao was the squad leader for the Matsu Ju-Guang Training Class, and in 2018, he was elected president of the Taiwan Amphibian and Reptile Association.

On January 10, 2020, during a campaign rally, Chao drove through a restricted area. After a verbal altercation with police officers, during which he pushed one of them, he was charged with obstructing official duties. The Taipei court sentenced him to 55 days of detention, followed by a two-year probation, and he later reached a settlement regarding the assault charges.

Chao also has a prior criminal record; in 2002, while studying in the United States, he was sentenced to 16 months in prison for assaulting his girlfriend. His convictions included illegal detention, domestic violence, and intimidation. After completing his sentence, he was deported to Taiwan due to his lack of U.S. citizenship.
