Tae Jin Ah is a South Korean trot singer. He only completed elementary school as a child due to the bad economic situation of his family, but later, he passed the middle school and high school qualification examinations. He moved to Seoul in 1966 and then graduated with a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from Korea National Open University.

He made his debut in 1973 with the song "Green Hill of Memories", and quickly became a huge hit sweeping the rookie awards. However, he was arrested in 1975 at the age of 22 after having an affair with the wife of the President of Hyundai Engineering & Construction company, who was 23 years older than him. He was soon released as the man withdrew the complaint after divorcing, but he was expelled from the singer's section of the Entertainment Association and returned to his hometown to plan the next step of his career.

By 1980, he was banned from appearing on Korean TV due to the affair, so he went to the United States and began performing at night in Korean society with the help of senior singer Song Dae Gwan, who had settled there first. In 1984, the ban on broadcasting was lifted, and he released an album in South Korea and returned to the U.S. again.

In 1981, he was engaged to actress Choi Jung Min, but they broke the engagement and a few months later, he married his current wife. In 2010, he took over as the 5th president of the Korea Singers Association and actively took part in the Kara exclusive contract termination case and intervened to stabilize their situation. He has a son, Eru, who also debuted as a singer but became more popular in Indonesia and now does more acting than singing.
