In 2002, he was part of SOULIST, an underground music vocal club alongside K. Will, Lee Hyun and Mi.O members Jang Jeong Woo and Lee Jung Wook.
Originally, SG WANNABE was planned as a duo, but he joined as the main vocalist and maknae when they debuted in January 2004 with their first album, "SG Wanna Be+". They became known for being a group focused on lyrical content and singing ability rather than looks and gained a reputation for being mysterious as they did not show their faces and did not star in any of their music videos. They felt their physical traits were not up to South Korean standards, so they were "faceless singers" for several years.
Despite that, they won Best New Artist at several award ceremonies, and their second album, "Saldaga", was the best-selling album of 2005 in South Korea and won Album of the Year at the Golden Disc Awards.
At the same time, he worked as a guest singer of MtoM, and the public began confusing both groups because of him. From the second album on, he focused on SG Wannabe and also became involved in composing and writing lyrics for some of the songs.
In 2008, original member Chae Dong Ha left the group, and he conducted a nationwide audition to replace him, ultimately choosing Lee Seok Hoon. However, in 2011, they faced a rough patch as he was involved in a hit-and-run investigation, Lee's military enlistment was quickly approaching, and former member Chae committed suicide due to depression. So, they decided to go on an extended hiatus.
He was exempted from service due to an injury, and he remained largely away from the public eye for a while. The group returned in 2015 (after a 4-year break) the group returned in 2015 (after a 4-year break) and has continued their commercial success.
Their contracts with CJ ENM ended in 2019, and since then, each member has been represented by different agencies. He is managed by Voice Entertainment (목소리엔터테인먼트).
In March 2021, they appeared in an episode of "Hangout With You" (also known as "How Do You Play?"), marking their first live performance in over 3 years.
