Ohsaki Akira was born in Gunma Prefecture in 1961. After studying under Tatsumura Jin, he took part in the making of documentary programs and commercials, then going freelance to work as an assistant director for Kitano Takeshi, Suwa Nobuhiro, Shinohara Tetsuo, and others. Also, he was in charge of the casting for various TV series and the French movie Demonlover by Olivier Assayas (2005). In 2005, he made his first feature The Catch Man. His comedy Obon Brothers celebrated its world premiere at the Nippon Connection Film Festival in 2015.
