HONG Kyeong-pyo, also known as Alex HONG, is a veteran South Korean cinematographer and a pioneer who introduced many technologies into the Korean industry.

Making his debut in 1989 as part of "That Which Falls Has Wings" film crew, he has also spent a few years in the United States and learned how shootings are done in the Hollywood system. After he came back to Korea, he made his debut as a cinematographer with "The Harmonica of Grief" (1995) and gained his recognition for his work on IM Sang-soo’s "Girls‘ Night Out" (1998). His following works "Phantom The Submarine" (1999), "The Foul King" (2000), "Il Mare" (2000) and "Asako In Ruby Shoes" (2000) established him as one of the Korea’s greatest cinematographers. One of his most impressive works, war epic "TaeGukGi: Brotherhood Of War" (2004), displayed visuals on par with Hollywood productions, drawing comparisons with "Saving Private Ryan". He has recently come back into the limelight and gained international recognition for his slick visuals in BONG Joon-ho’s international co-production "Snowpiercer" and NA Hong-jin’s harrowing thriller "THE WAILING".
