After dropping out of university, he joined a theater company in 1967. He attracted attention there playing the leading role of "Hamlet". In 1970, he had his debut in movies opposite Yoshinaga Sayuri in "Seishun Taizenshu".
Due to his popularity and looks, he began acting in tv dramas. He often wound up playing villain or idiot roles.
