Sato Takuma is a Japanese director born in Akita, Japan. He graduated from Akita Prefectural Akita Minami High School (秋田県立秋田南高等学校). During his school years, he played soccer, representing the Akita Prefecture select team in elementary and middle school. He also participated in a student exchange program in the UK, though challenges during this time led to a loss of motivation. In his third year of high school, after his team was eliminated in the prefectural qualifiers for the National High School Sports Festival (全国高等学校総合体育大会) soccer competition, he decided to retire from the sport.

After high school, Sato moved to Tokyo for university. In his fourth year, he enrolled in a one-year film school while continuing his studies. In 2012, he completed the 9th Advanced Creator Course at New Cinema Workshop (ニューシネマワークショップ).

Sato joined the film production group Bunpuku (分福) and began producing independent films in 2014. His first commercial directorial work, Any Crybabies Around? (泣く子はいねぇが), was released in 2020.
