He attended Azabu Junior High School (麻布中学校) and graduated from Tokyo Higher School of Landscaping (東京高等造園学校). Nagahama began his career in the theater, joining the Shinko Theater Association (新興劇協会) and making his stage debut in Cyanide (青酸加里). He was involved with the Rakugeki Kinyokai (楽劇金曜会) in 1934, and by 1937, he joined the Shinchikuza Theater Company (新築地劇団), later moving to the Mizuho Theater Company (瑞穂劇団) in 1942.
He made his screen debut in Wife, Be Like a Rose (妻よ薔薇のやうに) in 1935. During and after World War II, he was part of the Toho Mobile Theater Troupe (東宝移動演劇隊), and in 1947, he signed an exclusive contract with Toho (東宝). Following the resolution of the Toho labor dispute in 1950, Nagahama co-founded the Tokyo Radio Group (東京ラジオ・グループ) and later signed a contract with NHK, expanding into television. In 1968, he joined the Mingei Theater Company (劇団民藝).
Nagahama passed away on August 1, 1983, at the age of 72.
