Ma Jian is a Chinese actor, born in Shijiazhuang of Hebei Province and graduated from the University of Utah.

Prior to showbiz, Ma was a professional basketball player and had been on the Chinese National Men's Basketball Team. His stint as a basketball player spanned from his training enrolment in 1983 to his retirement in 2003. He became the first professional Chinese player to participate in the NCAA Leaque in 1993, and had won the title of Philippine Basketball League Foreign Player of the Year in 1995 and the 1998-1999 CBA All-Star award in 1999. After retiring, he engaged in business as a sports industry operator, and has also served as a basketball commentor.

In June 2010, Ma made his acting debut with his first screen appearance in the comedy "Lost on Journey", and followed shortly by the action comedy movie "Seven Arhat".
