Song Dae Gwan was a South Korean trot singer. He graduated from Jeonju Yeongsaeng High School and made his debut in 1967 with the song "A Kind Man". He left his home looking for an opportunity to earn some money to help his family, and in Seoul, he was introduced to a KBS executive who, after listening to him sing, simply brought him to a studio where a trot program was being recorded, put him in front of a camera and told him to start singing.

He then spent several years as an obscure singer until his single "Sunrise" was released in 1975 and became an instant hit. He suddenly left South Korea and moved to the United States until he returned in 1989 with the single "I'm Alone" and has released many more since then.

In 2011, his wife was indicted for gambling, and he was under investigation for fraud after allegedly stealing land sale rights from a South Korean-Canadian citizen. She was sentenced by two separate agencies to 4 years and 6 months in prison, and he was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison plus 2 years of probation. She was released on bail in 2015, and after several appeals, he was cleared of all wrongdoing by the end of that year. In 2016, KBS and MBC lifted all bans against him, and he was allowed to return to TV.

He passed away on February 7, 2025, at the age of 78, due to a heart attack.
