Yamaji Fumiko was an actress, businessman, and social entrepreneur from Nagata Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture.

In 1930, while attending Mori High School, she was elected to Miss Kobe sponsored by the Kobe Shimbun Co., Ltd. She joined the company and made her movie debut with "The Rebellious Child of the Times".

After transferring from Teikoku Kinema to Nikkatsu, she returned to Shinko Kinema, appeared in many works as a leading actress, and recorded several movie theme songs. She also served as an advertising model for Nissan Motor, Utena Cosmetics, etc.

After the war, she retired from the movie world after appearing in the movie "Blooming in the Land of Akatsuki" (1949) and turned into a businesswoman who ran a restaurant "Yamaji" in Shibakoen, Minato-ku, Tokyo with her mother. After closing the restaurant due to her mother's eye illness in 1964, she sold the land and building because it was impossible to completely cure her mother's eye illness with Japanese medical equipment at that time. Of the private property obtained, more than half was used as a fund for the "Yamaji Fumiko Natural Science Promotion Foundation" which was established with the aim of "contributing to the development of Japanese science."

In 1963, she received the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bronze Award. She received the Medal with Blue Ribbon in 1972.

She is one of the few Japanese female drivers who owned a private car in the 1930s, obtained a driver's license, and drove her own car. Edit Biography
