Dan Tokumaro was a Japanese actor and screenwriter born in Kireto-cho, Hyogo, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. He is the first actor to play Tange Sazen. His eldest daughter is actress Yamamoto Toriko, his son-in-law is actor Gomi Ryutaro, and his granddaughter is broadcast writer Yamamoto Manami.

In 1916, he joined the Shinpa Matsuo Jiro troupe and made his stage debut at Yokohama Kirakuza under the name of Tanimoto Wakaba. After that, he performed stage activities at Shizuma Kojiro Ichiza.

In 1925, he joined the Toa Kinema Tojiin Film Studio, and in the same year appeared in "Aragamiyama no Blood Smoke" under the name of Kokichi Otaguro. During the separation of Toa Kinema and Makino Production in the same year, he remained at the Tojiin Film Studio in Toa. In 1926, he changed his stage name to Dan Tokumaro and eventually became an executive actor of the company.

Dan joined Toyoko Eiga in 1950 after the end of the war. After the merge of Toei in 1951, he became a member of the company and appeared in many historical films.

He died of heart failure at the age of 84 on January 18, 1987. Edit Biography
