In 2001, he won the Intizen Music Audition, a competition where he was chosen as the best singer out of 1,000 candidates. The prize was being trained by well-known composer Kim Hyung Seok.
After practicing for 3 years, he submitted 4 songs as potential OSTs for the MBC drama "Prince's First Love". He made his official debut in 2004 with his first album, "Addiction". He is seen as a powerful singer, but his OSTs have proven to be more successful than his regular albums.
He enlisted for his mandatory military service on September 6, 2012, and was discharged on September 5, 2014.
He is represented by S27M Entertainment (S27M 엔터테인먼트).
