Liu began his singing career at nine years old and gained recognition in high school by placing fifth in a singing competition organized by Taiwan Television. This achievement led him to enter the entertainment industry. After serving in the military in 1972, he signed with Ko Lin Records (歌林) in 1975 and released his first album, "Nuoyan" (諾言), alongside his film debut in "Men Li Men Wai" (門裡門外).
In 1977, Liu transitioned from Taiwan Television to China Television. The following year, he ended his contract with Ko Lin Records and joined the Tony Agency (東尼機構). In 1982, he signed with PolyGram Records (寶麗金唱片), but after leaving PolyGram in 1984, he stepped back from the music scene and moved to the United States. He returned to Taiwan in late 1986 to focus on behind-the-scenes work, founding and managing Feiying Records (飛鷹唱片).
By 1991, Liu concluded his involvement with Feiying Records and officially relocated to the United States, marking his retirement from public life.
