In May 1925, at Fukuyama Katsugi in Ichimura-za "Sukeroku", he took the first stage under the name of the first Ukon Onoe , and in October 1940, in Kabuki-za "Meeting" Goro took the name of the second generation Kuroemon Onoe .

In July 1949, his father, Kikugoro, died of illness, and when his disciples formed the Onoe Kikugoro Theater Company , he became a director, but soon he studied abroad in the United States .

After returning to Japan, in addition to Kabuki, he played the role of Yukichi Fukuzawa in "The Liberty Bell Rings" and appeared in movies and TV dramas, but in 1969 he collapsed due to cerebral hemorrhage .

After that, he moved to the United States and taught theater at Harvard University and Columbia University, and made an effort to popularize Kabuki.
