Kishi Matsuo was a Japanese film critic, journalist, screenwriter, and film director born in Nihonbashi-ku, Tokyo. He is known as the critic who discovered the filmmaker Yamanaka Sadao. He graduated from Keio University.

In 1937, at the strong recommendation of film director Shimizu Hiroshi, he retired from Kinema Junpo and joined Toho Film. He became an assistant director at the age of 30. In 1938, he made his debut as a film director in the movie "Windmill" produced by Toho Film Kyoto Studio. He hasn't worked as a director since then.

After World War II, he participated in the establishment of Shintoho and worked as a screenwriter.

He died on August 17, 1985 at the age of 78. Edit Biography
