Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa was a Japanese-American-Russian actor, film producer and martial artist. He is best known for his role as the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung in various works in the Mortal Kombat franchise. He first played the character in the 1995 film adaptation; later reprising his role in the 2013 for the television series Mortal Kombat: Legacy and in the 2019 video game Mortal Kombat 11. His other roles such as The Last Emperor (1987), PTEN and TNT's Babylon 5 (1993-1998), Tekken (2009), and Amazon Prime Video's The Man in the High Castle (2015-2019), which is adapted of the novel by Philip K. Dick.

Tagawa passed away at the age of 75 due to complications from a stroke the morning of December 4th, 2025. He is survived by his wife Sally and his three children, Calen, Brynne and Cana; and his two grandchildren, River and Thea Clayton.
