Angela Chang
- Name: Angela Chang
- Native name: 張韶涵
- Also Known as: Zhang Shao Han, Zhang Shaohan, Chang Shaohan, 张韶涵
- Nationality: Taiwanese
- Gender: Female
- Born: January 19, 1982
- Age: 44
Coming from a modest background, her family relied mainly on her mother's hard work managing a steakhouse called "Black Beard Steakhouse" to make ends meet. Angela and her sister also helped out at the restaurant after school from a young age.
During her fourth grade in elementary school, Angela's family immigrated to Singapore. However, they returned to Zhongli shortly after. When Angela was 12 years old, her mother fell victim to a malicious scheme, resulting in the loss of their savings overnight. The family had to sell their property and, with the financial assistance of their grandfather, immigrated to Vancouver, Canada, leaving behind their past and hoping to start anew.
After arriving in Canada, her father suffered from heart disease and was unable to work, and with a younger brother nine years her junior to care for, Angela began to work part-time while continuing her studies.
In 1997, at the age of 15, Angela Chang began to enroll in various singing competitions and started continuous self-training, including vocal exercises, posture, and running to improve lung capacity. This self-training lasted for three years. After her initial failure in her first competition singing Zhang Yu Sheng's "Days Without Smoking," she decided to continue challenging the same song until she succeeded. Consequently, in all subsequent competitions, she only sang this one song.
In 1999, at the age of 17, after experiencing more than twenty failures, Angela Chang finally won the championship in the Chinese division of the "Canadian Chinese Radio Star" competition. Her competition video caught the attention of music producer Lin Long Xuan, who recognized the potential in her voice and suggested she return to Taiwan to develop her career. For Angela, this was not an easy decision, as returning to Taiwan meant bidding farewell to the six years of hard work spent immigrating to Canada. However, ultimately, Angela decided to return to Taiwan with her mother to seek opportunities.
After returning to Taiwan, Angela Chang visited various record companies seeking opportunities. However, the process was not smooth, as she faced repeated rejections from record companies. In 2000, after more than a year of seeking opportunities in Taiwan, she finally signed a contract with the managing director of Fumao Records. However, she didn't immediately get job opportunities; instead, she waited for two years.
In July 2002, Angela Chang, who initially aimed to become a singer, began her journey in the entertainment industry through acting.
On January 6, 2004, she released her debut album "Over The Rainbow," officially debuting as a singer.
In early September 2009, on the eve of the release of her sixth album "Season 5," Angela Chang's mother made severe accusations including abandonment and drug abuse. The allegations were widely broadcasted across various news outlets and even discussed on television programs. Chang personally denied the allegations of abandonment, stating that all the money she earned was directly transferred to her mother's account. During her illness abroad in 2008, her mother did not visit to take care of her, and upon returning home, Chang found her mother had moved out and taken their savings. Chang held a press conference where she presented negative drug test results, confirming she had not used drugs and stated that the previous accusations were unfounded. The album release press conference and numerous endorsements were canceled due to the family scandal. The family scandal significantly impacted Chang's popularity, album sales, and overall career trajectory.
In February 2012, Angela Chang established her personal management company, Tianhan Music, with her sister as the manager.
On January 19, 2013, her birthday, Angela Chang fulfilled her second dream outside of being a singer by establishing her personal women's shoe brand, Temptation Styles. She personally served as the designer.
